The Barj Project

The Barj Project was formed in the summer of 2002 as a "Basement or Garage band" dedicated to the preservation of "classic retro rock." "We focus on exceptional harmonies and not so run of the mill songs," says Lead Vocalist and Drummer Ric Mahig.

The band originally started out as a three piece group. Jim Havranek on Rhythm and "Lead/Accent" guitar (Jim also delivers support on Mandolin, Harmonica and various precussion toys), Billy Wegner on Lead guitar and Ric Mahig, Lead Vocal and Drums. Together they provided a unique mix of vocal capabilities delivering stong harmonies. They later added Bass guitarist and Vocalist Anthony Sorbaro to complete the group as it exists today.

The addition of Anthony completed the retro sound that "The Barj Project" delivers today. Their three and four part harmonies are exceptionally tight. Their repetoire includes many Beatles songs that even they (The Beatles) didn't attempt live!

The group will tell you that they "Barjerize" songs to give them an energetic edge that delivers a truley unique Retro-Rock sound!

Guitarist Jim Havranek says, "We're a very down to earth band. Not a lot of flash and glitter to confuse the audience. Our strength is our ability to deliver a unique consistant sound."

*(Anthony and Ric played together for a number of years most notably in a group called "RAZZAR" RAZZAR performed at many local clubs throughout the Tri-State area. They wrote all their music and covered a few older R&B songs).
